Hewing Hotel leans into North Loop

Though the 124-room Hewing Hotel in Minneapolis’ North Loop opened for the first time November 17th, the 93,000-square-foot building is filled with relics from the original 1897 structure it occupies. Nearly every detail in the building was locally designed and made for the hotel. Sometimes the custom detailing was done out of necessity.

CSM’s hotel approach maintains long-term pattern

For more than half of its 40-year existence, CSM Corporation has used the same long-term hold strategy on which it was founded to solidify its position in the hotel industry. Steve Schlundt, a 20-year CSM employee who in September was named president of its lodging/residential business, said that philosophy won’t change anytime soon.

Downtown Milwaukee Fairfield Inn sold for $10.9 million

An affiliate of Chicago-based Arbor Lodging Partners has purchased the 103-room Fairfield Inn & Suites hotel in the historic Straus Building in downtown Milwaukee for $10.9 million, according to state records. The purchase marks Arbor’s entry into downtown Milwaukee, which was announced by the company last month.

Delta forges deal for Airbnb lodgers to get air miles

Delta Air Lines passengers can now earn miles when booking a stay through Airbnb, the leading home-sharing service. Delta is the first of the large U.S. carriers to partner with Airbnb. Virgin America reached a similar deal last year and Australia’s Qantas did in October 2016.
