St. Paul plans tax incentives for development around Allianz Field

St. Paul officials are poised to offer tax incentives for development around Allianz Field, a site that’s expected to add hundreds of millions of dollars to the capital city’s property tax base.

The City Council, acting as the Housing and Redevelopment Authority (HRA), voted unanimously to authorize the creation of a tax-increment financing (TIF) district on the 34.4-acre parcel at Snelling and University avenues. The measure, which requires state approval, would allow the city to incentivize development around the soccer stadium for 16 years.

New owner plans $35 million renovations for Bloomington DoubleTree

The new owner of the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Bloomington is placing a big bet on the return of travel, corporate events and galas.

Vinayaka Hospitality of Schaumburg, Ill. is beginning a $35 million, top-to-bottom renovation as the hotel celebrated its 50th anniversary in September. The renovation will cost more than the $26 million Vinayaka paid for the hotel in July 2020.

The renovations will start with the exterior this fall and move into the hotel’s public spaces and 568 guest rooms, before wrapping up in March 2021. The hotel, at Highway 100 and 494, will remain a DoubleTree after the renovation.

Hotel Landing in Wayzata Avoids Worst of Pandemic

Steve Bohl’s Hotel Landing in Wayzata has something that not many others have in the Twin Cities: more full rooms than empty ones.

Thanks to booming weekend leisure business, the 92-room downtown hotel near the shore of Lake Minnetonka enjoyed a 60% occupancy this summer, which is nearly twice the occupancy rate of the rest of the pandemic-stricken Twin Cities market. And, Bohl said, Hotel Landing’s occupancy is four times that of comparable boutique hotels in the metro area.
